Second Podcast Interview by Off the Grid News: Alternative Power
This 20 minute interview by Michael Foust of Off the Grid News focuses on our evolving use of solar and wind power and how we (sometimes) ensure running water during our long winters.
Dear Jenny: The wind turbine is silent except in exceptionally high winds (that I assume are testing its limits of tolerance) so that is rare. This happened the other night and it sounded like a big animal moaning!
Interesting. In Australia I've known of well intentioned environmentally focussed friends who have had tried the wind power option for their domestic needs and it was a total failure. Either it was too noisy or the thing didn't turn. Was the wind turbine you used designed by yourselves or did the design come from a company?
Your set up sounds very impressive. When you are generating wind power does this make a noise?

ReplyDeleteWe bought the wind turbine. We have had more problems with it than with solar, but it is a useful alternative.
